Important: This questionnaire is educational only. It does not diagnose, prescribe, or guarantee insurance coverage or treatment outcomes. Decisions about whether TMS therapy is appropriate for you are made by your treating clinician after a complete evaluation. Specific FDA-cleared indications and contraindications referenced in this questionnaire reflect device labeling and the Clinical TMS Society Consensus Review at time of writing.
TMS eligibility, answered.
Who qualifies for TMS therapy? TMS is FDA-cleared for adults with major depressive disorder who have not responded adequately to antidepressant medication in the current episode, and for OCD via Deep TMS. Candidates are typically adults without a history of seizure disorder, without ferromagnetic implants in or near the head, and not pregnant — pregnancy is a relative contraindication evaluated case by case.
Does TMS hurt? Most patients describe the sensation as firm tapping on the scalp. Scalp discomfort and mild headache are the most common side effects, peak in the first week, and resolve over the course of treatment.
How long does a course of TMS take? A standard course is 36 sessions over six to nine weeks. Sessions are daily on weekdays, and rTMS does not impair alertness or reaction time — patients drive themselves to and from appointments and return to work the same day.
Is this questionnaire a diagnosis? No. It is an educational self-assessment drawn from the FDA-cleared TMS indications and standard safety screening. Actual candidacy is determined by your treating clinician at a full clinical evaluation.
